Demographic Change and the Remodeling Outlook

The EM NARI Membership Dinner in March featured a forecast for the Remodeling Industry for 2017 by economist Kermit Baker of Harvard’s Joint Center for Housing Studies.

During the presentation, the findings from the new report Improving America’s Housing: Remodeling for a New Generation.  With so much detail in this program, many attendees ask for a copy of Kermit’s slides.

Massachusetts Stretch Code - Not all Massachusetts cities and towns have yet adopted the Stretch Code, but those which have are indicated on the map and are enforcing its provisions with tenacity. Click here for a map showing those Massachusetts towns.

Stretch Code townships, however, operate under a different set of design and testing standards, which require outside resources such as HERs raters be used by builders for all areas of energy compliance, thereby relieving the building department(s) of this portion of the building construction review & inspection.

HIRI forecast cites growth for remodeling product sales - Remodeling contractor and consumer sales related to home improvement products are expected to get a much-needed bump for the next few years.

September 2012

Bill introduced to extend home energy efficiency tax credit - A bill to extend the expired residential energy efficiency tax credit for installing qualified furnaces, boilers, central air conditioners, and heat pumps was recently filed in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Home Energy Savings Act would extend the value of the tax credit at 10% of the installed costs up to a maximum $500 per household for 2012 and 2013.

August 2012

AZEK parent company reaches deal to acquire TimberTech - CPG International Inc. today announces the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire TimberTech, a subsidiary of the Crane Group and well-known manufacturer of high quality, low maintenance decking, railing and accessory products. CPG International is the parent company of AZEK Building Products, a leading manufacturer of premium, low-maintenance exterior products that includes decking, railing, porch boards, trim, mouldings and recycled composite pavers.
