As a third generation family owned and operated business, National Lumber cares about the environment and is a leader in promoting responsible building practices.
We are proud to be part of the worldwide movement to use sustainable, managed harvesting of various wood species. Caring for the environment now is a gift we give our children for their future.

What does it mean for a lumberyard to be FSC® Certified?
It means that the company has been examined by Scientific Certification Systems and certified in accordance with the rules of the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®). This permits us to handle and resell products that have been harvested from forests that meet stringent environmental, social and economic standards. National Lumber is one of only four lumberyards in New England that is FSC® certified. Its Chain-of-Custody Certificate Number is SCS-COC-001147. Click for a PDF of our certificate »

Why would a builder want to purchase products from a lumberyard with FSC certification?
Builders earn LEED points based on the percentage of FSC® products used in their project. For example, if 50% of the value of wood used in their project is FSC® certified they earn one point towards LEED. As communities implement environmentally-friendly regulations in their building codes, LEED becomes a bigger issue for builders. Builders should always ask their supplier if they actually have certification. Click for more information about LEED »

Why would a property owner want products from a lumberyard with FSC® certification used in their building or home?
Well-educated homeowners lead the way in asking for environmentally-friendly products. Owners of residential and business properties are finding that their clients want to take a more environmentally-friendly approach to the ways they live and work. Good business is always about giving the customer what they want. In this case, everyone wins as we protect the earth for our shared future.

What does the FSC® logo indicate?
The Trademark of the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) indicates that the wood used to make the product comes from a forest which is well managed according to strict environmental, social and economic standards. The forest of origin has been independently inspected and evaluated according to the principles and criteria for forest management agreed and approved by the Forest Stewardship Council®. FSC® is an international, non-profit association whose membership comprises environmental and social groups and progressive forestry and wood retail companies working in partnership to improve forest management worldwide.
