As of July 1st, 2011 continuing education is required for all Construction Supervisor Licensees in the state of Massachusetts.

Smart Building: High Performance Homes

The Department of Energy Resources (DOER) will be offering a workshop for builders and designers in Mansfield, MA on January 11. The 8:30-2:00 session, Smart Building: High Performance Homes, will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn how to move towards building higher performing homes by utilizing better practices, while at the same time ensuring compliance with energy codes.
Attendees will learn how to apply a systems approach, using the interaction between different components and materials to avoid moisture problems, improve indoor air quality, ensure combustion safety, prevent ice dams and other expensive callbacks, and reduce energy consumption.
The workshop starts from the ground up, from foundation to roof, describing techniques and practices that can be used to effectively build energy efficient homes that have lower operating costs, improved comfort, and comply with the base and stretch energy codes. Case studies will show proven methods that have enabled builders and designers to build cost effective high performance homes.
Registration fee is $25 or free for building officials and includes a light breakfast and lunch.

For attending this course, Massachusetts CSL's will earn a Certificate of Completion worth 3 CEU's.
Residential contractors are required by OSHA to create a written fall protection plan and have it in place as of September 16th, 2011.
The new OSHA directive affects any contractor who works at heights of 6 feet or above on wood frame structures. Residential contractors, builders and trades are required to use safety nets, guard rails and/or fall arrest systems when working 6 feet above lower levels.
Our training will help you comply with the Fall Protection Standard, protect your workers and be ready when OSHA visits your job site.
IN THIS 6 HOUR WORKSHOP YOU WILL LEARN:
- The Standard, Ladders and Stairways, Aerial Lifts, Scissor Lifts, Pump Jack Staging, Scaffolding, Job Hazard Assessments
- How to write your main plan (template plan provided) and how to write a site specific plan
- Floor and wall openings, Elevated levels, Harnesses, Fall Arrest Systems, Safety Nets and more
- Will show you the type of equipment you will need to meet the standard and where you can find it
- You will be provided with numerous Forms, Templates and Tools to implement this standard into your business.
- You will receive a Certificate of Completion at the conclusion of the training.
WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS TRAINING:
Owners, Production Managers, Foremen, Lead Carpenters, Crew Leaders and qualified workers who work for Remodelers, Builders, Framers, Painters, Roofers, Siding and Gutter Contractors, or any contractor or sub trades who work 6 feet above lower levels.
Your workers and sub-contractors MUST be trained and certified on the standard before they are allowed to work above this height.
